Montrose FC have signed Alex Balfour from Junior side Tayport on an amateur contract until the end of the season. 

The talented 16 year old, who spent 6 years as part of the Dundee Youth Academy, moved to Tayport at the turn of the year and has impressed in his short time there, scoring 6 goals in his 6 appearances. 

Manager Stewart Petrie said, “We have been monitoring Alex’s progress for some time now and felt this was a good time to bring him into the first team setup.

“He has been training with us for the last few weeks and we are all excited to now see how he handles the challenge of stepping up from Junior to League 1 level.

“We would also like to thank Daryl and Tayport for their full support in making this happen.”

This move further highlights the Gable Endies commitment to the development of youth, with 16 year old Mo Academy player Harry Craig currently seeing regular first team action and 18 year old graduate Ben Hermiston being offered his first pro-contract in January.
