Montrose FC have agreed a further 12-month contract extension with player and First Team coach Sean Dillon, keeping the Irishman at Links Park until at least the summer of 2025.

Since arriving at Links Park as the then new Gaffer, Stewart Petrie’s first marquee signing in June 2017, the experienced centre half has made 253 appearances and scored 8 goals, including a crucial equaliser during Saturday’s dramatic 4-3 win against Alloa Athletic.

Proving age is but a number, the 40-year-old continues to play a pivotal role in the heart of the Gable Endies defence, having helped Petrie guide the Angus side to the League Two title in 2018 followed by 4 top 4 finishes in 5 years in League One with another Championship playoff place firmly in their sights this campaign.

Petrie said, “We are absolutely delighted to have Sean’s services secured for another year. It is a tribute to his professionalism, attitude and commitment that he continues to perform at such a high level despite now being in his 40’s.

“His experience and leadership qualities speak for themselves, and we plan to exploit this even further going forward through his duel coaching role by seeing Sean play a bigger part in weekly training sessions.”
