Montrose FC midfielder Matheus Machado has agreed a 1 year contract extension, keeping the 22 year old at Links Park until the summer of 2025.

The talented youngster was signed from Breeden Highland League outfit Rothes in January last year and has made 48 appearances for Stewart Petrie’s side, scoring one goal.

Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Machado moved to Scotland in 2018 having secured a 2-year deal with Inverness Caledonian Thistle. A short, one year spell in Portugal followed, before returning to the Highlands, signing for League Two Elgin City in 2021, before moving 10 miles south just 12 months later to sign for Rothes.

Manager Stewart Petrie said, “We are delighted to have secured Matheus for another season. He has done well over the last 18 months, proving equally comfortable playing at full back, in central midfield or in wide areas, so gives us real versatility and options all over the pitch. He also has a great character and has fitted in well in the dressing room.”
