Next up in our series of reflective interviews, celebrating the 145^th Anniversary of our beloved Club, we spoke with Andy Steeves about our Championship winning season of 2017/18, one in which he played every minute of every game.

Qu 1 – What are your abiding memories of the day you won the title?

I only remember 3 things about the game itself! Terry’s chance in the first half that the GK saves, their goal and our goal and that’s it! Was a bit of blur the game as soon as it was over. I remember absolutely everything about the moments after from lifting the trophy, the changing room and the dinner/POTY and party afterwards! What a night. The manager singing on the stage and everyone going back to the Chairman’s afterwards. Top 5 evening in to night/ early morning of my life!

Qu 2 – At the start of that season, how did you assess the squad around you and how well did you think it would do?

After making the playoffs the year before the manager internally made it very clear the aim was the get out of the division. We strengthened from the year before and as soon as the first week comfortable win against Edinburgh we definitely thought we had a chance with how well we played. I think the biggest signing that year was Sean Dillon for taking us to the next level.

Qu 3 – What were the key moments/games in that campaign for you?

A huge moment for us was the 3-2 win at home against Peterhead who finished second with 6ish weeks to go on the season. The tough away game against Stenny the week before to come through that comfortably was huge win. Bouncing back from the 6-2 defeat to Peterhead was big was well as that move Peterhead quite far ahead of us going into the new year.

Qu 4 – At what stage in the season did you start to think, we could win this?

A weird one was a Tuesday night game Peterhead vs Annan, and we came in form training, and it was 3-0 Peterhead and by the time we were leaving the changing room it was 3-3 and Annan had scored 3 late goals to keep us top of the table. That was the moment we really started to think it was possible.

Qu 5 – What are you most proud of from that season?

Personally, starting and finishing all 36 games was a huge accomplishment. SPFL and Ladbrokes team of the year was another one but most proud of the moments we could’ve let it slip like the Peterhead game and we always came back was huge.

Qu 6 – How does it make you feel to know you were part of a successful period in the history of Montrose FC?

Immensely proud! It’s now a decade of my life and to have gone through it with people like Webby, Terry, Paul, Matty Allan, Liam Callaghan, CJ and Dillo, who are now friends for life along with Ross, Yano and the manager is the biggest feeling from all of it!
