YOUNG BERTIE EARNS CONTRACT EXTENSION

Montrose FC have extended the contract of young Keir Bertie for a further 18 months, keeping the ex-Dundee Utd defensive midfielder at Links Park until at least the summer of 2026.

Mo boss Stewart Petrie snapped up Bertie following his release from Tannadice in the summer, and the talented teenager has featured 5 times for the Gable Endies so far this season, including a substitute debut back in August in the Highlands as part of a dogged 1-1 draw with 10 men, against Inverness Caley Thistle.

The 18-year-old graduated from Utd’s flagship school programme at Baldragon Academy, which included a call up to a Scotland U16’s training camp, before signing his first professional deal in June 2022.

Assistant Manager Ross Campbell said, “Keir has done really well in the short time he has been with us, and we have seen more than enough potential to warrant keeping him within the squad for the foreseeable future. We are delighted he wants to stay within the group and look forward to helping him accelerate the next stage of his development.”

Keir added, “Getting offered a contract from a great club like Montrose in the summer was a great boost for my confidence. I feel I have settled into the club really well which has been made easy as there is a great set of boys here.

“When the gaffer said to me the club were going to offer me a contract extension I was absolutely delighted to sign it and I’m looking forward to playing 1st team football for Montrose football club.”
