Montrose FC have signed highly rated forward Owen Stirton on loan from Dundee United until the end of the season. 

The 18-year-old has been at Tannadice for 11 years, is a graduate of the Clubs Baldragon performance school programme and has represented his country at U17 level, scoring in a 2-0 home win against Kazakhstan in October 2023. 

This season, the Forfar born striker has regularly made the first team bench and has made three appearances for Jim Goodman’s Premiership side. 

The first of these, at home to Ross County back in November, proved historic for the Club, as Owen became the first academy graduate to score on his top flight debut, netting in added time to complete a 3-0 win. 

On arriving at Links Park, Owen commented, “I’m really happy to be here and to continue my development. Hopefully I can kick on and score a few goals for the club.”

Manager Stewart Petrie added, “We are delighted to get this deal over the line. Owen comes high rated, has a number of strong attributes and has showed great promise lately, which has righty taken him to the edge of United’s team. 

“We can hopefully give him the perfect platform to get more game time and we are all excited to be a part of his ongoing development.

“We would like to thank Jim and everyone at United for making this happen.”

Stirton will go straight into the Gable Endies squad for today’s trip to the National Stadium to face Queen’s Park in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.
