Montrose FC forward Alex Balfour has joined St Andrews United FC on loan until the end of the season.

Having arrived at Links Park last March, the talented Dundee Youth Academy graduate suffered a freak ankle break in two places whilst warming up as a substitute in just his second match.

After a lengthy recovery period, the priority now for Manager Stewart Petrie is to get the 17-year-old much needed game time and match sharpness.

Petrie said, “This is a good move at a good time for Alex. His recovery from the double ankle break took longer than first expected due to unforeseen complications, but the young lad worked extremely hard and showed incredible bravery and determination to get back fit.

“We wish Alex the best of luck in the weeks ahead at St Andrews Utd and look forward to his return to the first team squad in the summer.”
