Montrose FC have agreed a season long loan move for goalkeeper Ross Matthews to local Angus neighbours Brechin FC.

The 22-year-old, who arrived at Links Park in 2022 from Forfar West End, has made 20 appearances for the Gable Endies and for the last two seasons has acted as understudy to Stewart Petrie’s more experienced first choice stopper Cammy Gill.

Petrie explained, “It is always really difficult when you have two talented keepers to choose from and with the form that Cammy has shown since he arrived, options for Ross have been limited.

“Goalkeeping wise, Ross is still at a very young age, so this move comes at a really good point in time, and I am sure the opportunity of more regular minutes will accelerate his development, confidence and experience.

“We would like to thank Ray and everyone at Brechin for helping to make the loan happen and we look forwarded to monitoring Ross’s progress in the months ahead.
