Montrose FC legends Gordon Wallace, Charlie Guthrie and Garry Wood were recently inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame.

At an event organised by the MFC Supporters Club to mark their own 80^th Anniversary, tribute was paid to the 3 Mighty Mo greats who graced Links Park through the 1960’s, 1970’s and 2000’s respectively.

Gordon was signed as a teenager in 1962 by Manager Norman Christie, and as an inside forward enjoyed five seasons scoring an impressive 86 goals in 159 games. In his time, Gordon played alongside other Mo legends such as Phil Grieve, Bill Ogilvie, Ronnie Cross, Frank Sandeman, Jimmy Kemp, Ally Riddle and Bob Livingstone. His time at Links Park was extremely valuable and he will be remembered forever by those fortunate enough to see him play. Gordon’s time at Montrose led to full time opportunities at the highest levels in the Scottish game before going to manage clubs including Raith Rovers and Dundee.

Charlie played for six seasons at Links Park from 1971 to 77, before helping the club with the next generation of talent by becoming Youth Team Coach. He was the complete outside right winger, creating chances with crosses for others to score. Charlie made 155 appearances and scored 19 goals during his time with the club. He was a true gentleman who maybe got less publicity than others at the time, but who gave everything for the team, something that never went unnoticed by the Mo faithful – and the Guthrie spirit lives on to this day at Links Park, with granddaughter Neve currently playing in the Premier League for MFC Women.

Garry played as a centre-forward for Montrose for five years from 2007 and in his first season the club finished third in Division 3 with his contribution of 11 goals in 31 games. During two spells at Links Park, Garry went on to score 40 goals in 167 appearances, and none were better, nor more important, than his last. During a nerve-jangling Pyramid Play-Off final in 2015, with the club teetering on the edge of the abyss, Garry unleashed a 77^th minute screamer from 35 yards to edge our Brora Rangers 3-2. A goal of unmeasurable significance that will be forever etched into the club’s history.
