Montrose FC have announced that Iain Campbell will leave the Club this summer after a decade of successful service, both as player and coach.

The 40-year-old made the short move to Links Park from Angus neighbours Forfar Athletic in 2016, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience that proved crucial just a couple of years later when Stewart Petrie’s side lifted the Ladbrokes League 2 title in 2018.

A year later, Campbell began the transition into a post-playing career, moving seamlessly into a player/coach role, and in 2022, after notching up 106 appearances, the boots were hung up and his entire focus shifted to being part of a Management Team that continued to deliver an unbelievable era in the Club’s history, with multiple promotion play-off finishes.

Petrie said, “Yano has been outstanding for us over the last 10 years both on and off the pitch. Having been close friends with the Campbell family for many years, it was great for me to have both Ross and Yano here as players when I first arrived.

“In my first full year in charge, Yano played a pivotal role in our championship win with his experience, dead ball delivery, versatility, character, and dressing room influence across his 42 appearances that season.

“In the years that followed he steadily moved into his coaching role, to which he brings his unique energy, passion and humour. I am grateful and have thoroughly enjoyed working with Yano, both as a player and a coach and sincerely thank him for an incredible decade of service.”

“His commitment, personality, and dedication have made him a hugely popular figure with supporters, players, staff, and directors alike. “While it is always difficult to say goodbye to someone who has given so much, we do so with immense gratitude and respect. Yano will always be welcome at Links Park, and we wish him every success in the next chapter of his journey.”
