Montrose FC have agreed a 12-month contract extension with Andy Steeves, keeping the defender at Links Park until the summer of 2026.

Since joining the Gable Endies, initially on loan from Angus neighbours Forfar Athletic back in 2015, the ex-St Johnstone full back has made an incredible 368 appearances and scored 15 goals.

Over the last 9 years, the Perth born defenders performance levels have been both extremely high and consistent but the highlight of his overall career to date is undoubtedly helping the Club to make history in 2018 by winning only its second ever league title, a season in which he was the only member of Stewart Petrie’s side to play every minute of their League 2 campaign, a feat that earned the 30 year old a place in the SPFL Team of the Year.

Petrie said, “We are obviously delighted that Andy has agreed to extend his stay with us. The success we have been able to deliver for the Club over recent years has been strongly built around a pivotal group of players, of which Andy has been a key part.

“He is an incredibly influential character both on and off the pitch, and an ideal role model for the increasing number of younger players we have been able to involve in the first team.

“It is only fitting therefore that this extension will also allow for Andy’s commitment and dedication to be recognised with a series of Testimonial events.”

Andy added, “I’m delighted to sign my extension. When I spoke to the Manager about it, it was a quick decision to agree to stay and I’m really excited to see what we can all achieve over the next 2 years with this group of players and staff.

“With the extensions happening of a few across the squad and what we’ve added with Ben Maciver-Redwood, Craig Smith, and Keir Bertie together with our loans of Callum Hannah and Blair McKenzie, it’s a very exciting time to be part of this club.”
