Montrose FC have agreed a 24-month contract extension with Ali Shrive, keeping the 23-year-old at Links Park until the summer of 2027.

Following 5 seasons with his university side and being one of the first to benefit from the new football scholarship programme at Heriot-Watt University, the Banchory-born graduate signed for the Gable Endies last summer.

Having made 49 appearances to date, Shrive has also scored 3 goals, including a late equaliser at Links Park back in July against Motherwell in the Premier Sports Cup.

Petrie said, “We are extremely pleased Ali has agreed to extend his stay with us. He has settled in well with the boys and is exhibiting increasing maturity in midfield with every performance.

“We have a good track record of developing university talent, so we are excited to see just how much more there is to come from Ali.”

Ali added, “I am really happy to have signed on for a further two years. It was a no brainer really, the group of lads, the management team and all the people behind the scenes make it a great environment. As well as this, with the standard of the team now, I think we can really achieve something, making it an exciting project to be part of.”

Shrive becomes the eighth player in recent times to agree a contract extension with the Gable Endies, giving Petrie a sizeable, settled, and solid foundation to both work with and build on over the next few years.
