When the legend Ronnie Marquis decided to retire at the end of last season as Montrose FC’s Kitman and Groundsman, replacing such an iconic figure combined with his wealth of experience, was always set to be a tall order.

However, following a mix of restructuring, recruitment, and the stepping forward of a band of dedicated volunteers, the week-to-week handling and organisation of all first team kit, together with the day-to-day oversight of ground maintenance is very much under control.

Looking after kit preparation for the first team, Robert Ogg, who for almost 15 years assisted Ronnie, has now stepped up, taking overall responsibility of the role.

Working closely with Robert and his kit team of Neill McIntosh, Jackson Taylor and son Finlay, Helen Salmon and Pamela Walker have kindly volunteered to look after the first team, and other, laundry requirements.

Finally, coming onboard originally as a Caretaker, Chris Fotheringham has now been appointed as Groundsman, overseeing ground maintenance and pitch preparation.

Chief Exec Peter Stuart said, “We are really grateful to have found such a good group of staff and volunteers to pick up all the various tasks that Ronnie used to look after.

“Being able to rely on volunteers as part of this new structure has obviously allowed us to control costs, which is always very welcome, as every little helps towards the continued sustainability of our Club. We continue to welcome enquiries from anyone interested in assisting in any volunteer role, and indeed are close to bringing some new faces onboard.

“I would like to personally thank Robert, Neill, Jackson, Finlay, Helen, Pamela, and Chris for all their ongoing efforts, support, and commitment.”
