LYONS NAMED PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Montrose FC forward Blair Lyons has been named as the William Hill League 1 Player of the Month for March, hard on the heels of striker Owen Stirton, who won the February award.
The 28-year-old started all five of the Gable Endies fixtures in the month, returning 3 goals and 2 assists as Stewart Petrie’s men collected 9 points in an impressive unbeaten run.
The month began with tricky away trips to Inverness and Kelty, both of which finished all square. When Cove Rangers came calling at Links Park, Lyons put the home side ahead shortly after the break, a lead that was extended deep in the second half. However, two late goals from the visitors meant the spoils were shared once more.
A week later, Blair would have his best game of the campaign thus far, scoring a brace and providing an assist as the Mighty Mo came from behind at home against Annan Athletic to win 3-1, a performance that saw the tricky winger named as the SPFL Star Man in their Team of the Week.
Maintaining their good form, Petrie’s side ended the month away to Stenhousemuir, where Lyons again provided an assist for the third and decisive goal in a hard fought 3-2 victory, securing the Angus sides first back-to-back league wins of the season.
