Montrose FC have agreed a 12-month contract extension with Ryan Williamson, keeping the defender at Links Park until the summer of 2026.

The former Dunfermline and Partick Thistle full back made the move to Angus in the summer of 2023, following his departure from Falkirk.

The 28-year-old has since made 56 appearances for Stewart Petrie’s side and scored his first goal for the Club in a 3-0 home win against Stenhousemuir back in September.

Sadly, Williamson’s season came to an abrupt halt at the end of October when he suffered a dislocated kneecap, only making a brief return in the last few games of the campaign.

Petrie said, “Ryan had done really well since arriving two years ago and was flying at the start of the season prior to his injury, so it was great to be able to ease him back into action just before the season finished. We look forward to welcoming a fully fit Ryan back for pre-season next month.”

Ryan added, “I’m delighted to extend my contract at Montrose for a further year. I’ve really enjoyed my last 2 years at the club despite my injury ruling me out for the majority of this season.

“Up until that point, it had been the most I had enjoyed my football in years and I’m now looking forward to coming back for pre-season fully fit again and hoping to go and have a positive season next year both individually and collectively.”
