Montrose FC are delighted to confirm the signing of experienced defender Sean McGinty, who joins the club on a two‑year deal following the conclusion of his contract with former Championship side Airdrieonians.

A powerful and commanding centre‑half, McGinty arrives at Links Park with a wealth of experience gained through almost 450 appearances across the SPFL and beyond. Beginning his career in the youth systems of Charlton Athletic and Manchester United, he went on to gain senior experience with Carlisle United, Morecambe, and Rochdale, before establishing himself as a reliable and respected defender in Scotland.

His Scottish journey has seen him feature for Partick Thistle, Greenock Morton, and Ayr United, where his leadership and physical presence made him a standout performer. Most recently at Airdrieonians, McGinty played a key role in a side known for its organisation and resilience, further showcasing the consistency and professionalism he brings to every dressing room.

Manager Stewart Petrie expressed his delight at securing the deal saying, “Sean is someone we’ve admired for a long time. He’s strong, experienced, and brings real leadership qualities. He’s played at a high level for years and knows exactly what it takes to compete in this league. He’ll be a brilliant addition to the group, and we’re thrilled he’s chosen Montrose.”
