Montrose FC wish to pay a heartfelt tribute to Captain Andrew Steeves, who made his final appearance for the club last Saturday in his testimonial match against boyhood team, St Johnstone. The occasion marked the end of Andrew’s distinguished spell at Links Park as he prepares to begin a new life in the United States with wife Gina and daughter Andie.

Andy’s time at Montrose has been defined by consistency, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to the club. Since arriving at Links Park, initially on loan from Angus neighbours Forfar Athletic back in 2015, he has established himself as one of the most dependable and respected figures in the dressing room, admired for his work ethic, calm presence, and team‑first mentality.

Across his 11 seasons with the Gable Endies, Andy made 439 appearances, becoming a trusted figure and a steadying influence during the club’s rise from League 2 in 2018 and consolidation in League 1 since. His versatility and reliability made him a go‑to selection, and his contribution to the club’s modern era has been significant.

Beyond the pitch, Andy has been a role model for younger players, a supportive teammate, a valued ambassador within the community, and Club Captain for the past 12 months. His professionalism set standards that others followed.

Saturday’s testimonial was a celebration of Andy’s service and character, with the added emotional weight of facing St Johnstone, the club where it all began for Andy with five years spent in the Saints Youth Academy. The occasion allowed supporters, teammates and staff to show their appreciation for everything he has given to Montrose.

Manager Stewart Petrie reflected on Andy’s departure by saying, “Andrew has been an outstanding servant to Montrose. He’s dependable, honest and a brilliant teammate. You always knew what you were getting from him – total commitment and total professionalism. We’ll miss him greatly, but we’re excited for what lies ahead for him and his family.”

Chairman Peter Stuart added, “Andy embodies the values we hold dear at Montrose FC. He has represented the club with dignity and consistency, and he leaves with our gratitude and respect. We wish Andy, Gina and little Andie every happiness as they begin their new life in the US.”

Describing what was clearly an emotional farewell, Andrew said, “I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone associated with the club for what has been an incredible 11 years. I’ve been part of some amazing changing rooms and created some amazing memories. A huge thanks to my two managers, Paul Hegarty, for brining me to the club, and Stewart for making me part of his journey, all of which wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic support of the board and the fans.”

While Andy’s departure marks the end of a valued chapter at Links Park, his contribution will remain forever part of the club’s history. Montrose FC extend their warmest wishes to Andy and his family as they embark on this exciting new adventure overseas.
